GBF Community Services is a registered non-profit organization operating under charter since 1965.

Our late founder, Mike Barretto, was a committed volunteer and entrepreneur. His vision was to coordinate the benevolent efforts of several groups in Grimsby under one umbrella organization – thus the Grimsby Benevolent Fund was born. Since its humble beginnings as a Christmas Hamper program in 1965, GBF now operates a food bank, clothing & housewares store, and in 1992 established the Used Furniture Warehouse. Revenue generated from the store and warehouse help fund the many benevolent activities of GBF.

2005 marked the fortieth year that GBF has made a difference in our community. Grimsby is indeed indebted to the foresight of Mike Barretto and our many faithful volunteers over the years.
